Headlight Refurbishment
Are your headlights starting to look like this?
Headlights can go yellow and cloudy for a number of reasons, but the main reason is UV light. The sun breaks down the protective UV coating over time and starts to attack the headlight plastic.
If left for a long period of time, the headlight will:
Turn cloudy white / yellow
Start to develop fine line or “crazy paving” like cracks
Reduce the effectiveness of the headlights
Reduce safety
May fail a MOT
Make the car look old
So, what can be done? We can restore your headlights back to being clear and bright.
The key is to get the treatment done sooner rather than later. Once the headlight starts to turn a little less clear, the protective UV layer has failed. The longer a headlight is left, the duller it will get and “crazing” can occur. If “crazing” does occur, all is not lost, the light could still be repaired. However, a lot more work is involved. Should the cracks go through the lens then it is beyond repair.
Once your headlights are sparkling again, we apply a UV protective coating again to prevent the clouding. For the ultimate protection, we can apply a ceramic coating that will last even longer. (Free upgrade for the rest of 2020!!)
The following cars were all MOT failures. Code n Chips quickly got these cars back on the road, having sailed through the re-test.
Some companies charge depending on the make and model of your car. Here at Code n Chips it does not matter if you own a £500 car or a £50,000 car, our prices are the same!
We charge £75 for both headlights. If crazing has set in, we charge £20 extra for the time and materials used to remove most of the crazing. If you would like a ceramic coating applied to the headlights for the ultimate UV protection, this is an extra £Free – Limited time only.
Please note: We can not repair cracked, gouged or chipped headlights. The level of “cloudiness” and condition of the plastic will determine the effectiveness of the refurbishment. Harsh cleaners, acids and alkaline can turn headlights cloudy. If a harsh chemical has been applied to a headlight, it may not be possible to refurbish them. If it is suspected that a chemical has effected a headlight, we can try a small area free of charge, to see if we can remove the cloudiness.
